WHAT IS THE PELVIC FLOOR?

The muscular layer that looks like a hammock and covers the inside of the pelvis is called the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor supports the urine bag (bladder), which is located inside the pelvis, also supports the uterus, the ovary, and the rectum which is the last part of the large intestine.

Pelvic floor muscles play an important role in voiding, defecation, and sexual functions. It also acts as a lever by supporting the pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, prostate and rectum) from below.
